Today I'm sharing another Gridwork Throw quilt. Gridwork is the newest pattern in the Busy Hands Quilts pattern line, and it's jelly roll and stash friendly! I dug through my jelly roll stash to find just the right one for this quilt.
Gridwork is a fun and modern strip-pieced quilt. The pattern comes in multiple sizes from Throw to King.
Strip Pieced Gridwork Throw Quilt
This quilt is entirely strip pieced, and you will love how quickly it goes together! Of course you could sew together individual rectangles if you choose too, but why not save those little rectangles for a different project and enjoy the fun of quick strip piecing?!
If you're new to strip piecing and wondering what all the talk is about, here's a mini explanation. Strip piecing is sewing together long-ish strips of fabric, sometimes just two, and sometimes many more. This unit is then called a Strip Set. After the Strip Set is pressed, it is laid out on a cutting mat and segments are cut perpendicular to the seam in a specified width. The units are then called Segments. The segments are resewn together in a certain method to create the desired block. A pattern can have more than one Strip Set type (the arrangement of the print/background strips within the strip set) in order to create multiple different segments that when joined together create the desired block.

Gridwork Quilt Pattern
Gridwork is a fun and modern quilt pattern. It's stash-friendly for most of us because we have jelly rolls or strips in this size floating around in our stash.
Multiple Quilt Sizes
Gridwork includes 4 quilt sizes in the instructions:
* Lap quilt size
* Throw quilt size
* Queen bed size
* King bed size.
The Baby and Twin aren't included because they didn't work out mathematically, unfortunately. My patterns include as many sizes as possible, so it's disappointing when the Baby and Twin can't be featured in them. But hey, four sizes isn't too bad! :)
Machine Quilting
This Gridwork Throw size quilt is quilted with Ribbon Curls, a digital design I recently discovered. I was looking for a new swirly design, and this fit the bill. The quilting is in light great thread, done on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher.
Gridwork would be the perfect quilt to practice straight-line machine quilting on since you could use the rectangles as guides for the rows of stitching.
Bright and Bold Fabrics!
The fabrics used in this Gridwork quilt is the Painterly Petals fabric collection by Robert Kaufman. It's a fantastic collection of abstract flower petals in a rainbow of colors. I ♥ it! It's an older collection, but it's still available! You will find Painterly Petals right here.
The backing and binding are made with one of my favorite prints from the collection in bright blue, teal, and purple.
