Summer on the Porch Quilt Pattern in 4 Sizes!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

The Summer on the Porch quilt pattern has returned from her trip around the world and gone through a special polishing, and is ready for you!  Two sizes have been added to the quilt pattern - Throw and King - to bring the total number of sizes to four.

The pattern includes instructions on organizing the pieces and keeping them together in order to end up with organized blocks with matching star points.  There is even a splash of strip piecing included in the pattern - my favorite method to include.  ♥

This is a fat quarter friendly quilt pattern, so grab your favorite FQs, add in a contrasting background fabric, and Go!  I love the combination of navy, aqua, red, pink and green prints in florals, stripes, and ginghams from the Garden Party fabric collection.  While sometimes fabric selection is more difficult because of worrying about where it's placed in the quilt, this design comes with none of that fear.  Every fabric will be placed in every location within a quilt block at some point, and you decide which fabrics are placed together within each quilt block.  This means you can create blocks with bold contrast to create the greatest pop factor.

Summer on the Porch looks great in other fabrics and backgrounds.  Here's a peek.  These are all Twin size.

Quilt Stats:

Belle Throw Quilt!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

This is Belle - another finish from 2019 that hasn't been featured here on the blog!  This is made with a layer cake of Shelburne Falls by Denyse Schmidt.

This is a layer cake quilt pattern that goes together fairly quickly.  In order to have all of those squares for the border, the layer cake isn't simply cut into 5" squares; there wouldn't be enough.

This is the first time I have made a Seminole border in a quilt.  Well, I did make a sample border when I wrote the pattern to make sure I knew what I was talking about.  :)  Yes, the pattern was tested with a quilt sample being made, just not by me.

Quilt Stats:
Pattern:  Belle
Size:  54" x 72"
All Fabric:  Shelburne Falls by Denyse Schmidt and Kona Cotton Snow
Batting:  Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 cotton/poly
Quilting:  Canna on Gratitude, my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher

This quilt has sold in my quilt shop, but I have many more like it for sale.  Shop here!

Garden Party Quilt Kits on Sale!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Summer on the Porch has been kitted by Bluprint in Twin and Queen sizes, and they are currently on sale for half price!  This is a great time to pick up some beautiful fabrics at a great price.  I made the queen size quilt sample you see on Bluprint's website, and this is it hanging on my clothesline.  Yes, this is the quilt that I broke the clothesline with, not because of the weight of the quilt, but because of my impatience.  :(  You can read more right here.

Click here to go right to Summer on the Porch at Bluprint.

Garden Party is a pretty, breezy fabric collection with navy, red, pinky-peach, lime green, and aqua over a very soft white.

Gooseberry Pie has also been kitted by Bluprint and is also on sale for half price currently!  I also made the quilt sample for Bluprint, and here it is before I shipped it off.  They are such pretty prints!

Click here to go right to Gooseberry Pie at Bluprint.

I do not have notice of when sales begin or end at Bluprint, and because these quilt kits are not marked as Clearance, the sale is likely ending soon.  Check them out today!

Twister Quilt Kits!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

More Secret Sauce Sewing Pattern Designing is ready to be revealed!  This is Twister, a pattern I designed and wrote for Bluprint last year, which includes Throw, Twin, and King sizes.  Twister is a 10" square friendly pattern which means less cutting for you.

I can't call this Secret Sauce Sewing because I didn't make the quilt, so it's just Secret Sauce Designing.  :)

You will find this quilt kit on Bluprint right over here.

Two Step Quilt Kits!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing more Secret Sauce Sewing - another quilt kit which I designed for Bluprint last year!  This is Two Step, a fun charm square design which has been kitted in Dutch Garden III in Lap (I'd call it Baby), Throw, and Twin sizes.

You may or may not know that I am a strip piecing quilter at heart.  Strip piecing is sewing pieces together before cutting them again, rather than cutting small pieces and then sewing the pieces back together; it's a time saver indeed.  This pattern is like that.  Rather than cutting the charm squares smaller to begin with, the pattern sews them together before cutting them.  This means you finish quicker!

My version of Two Step is made mostly in Annie's Farm Stand by Holly Holderman, with a few other prints tossed in.  I cut charm squares of these fabrics years ago, so it was definitely time to use them.

Quilt Stats:
Pattern:  Two Step
Fabric:  Mostly Annie's Farmstand by Holly Holderman, definitely an aged collection.  :)
Size:  40" x 44"
Batting:  Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 cotton/poly
Quilting:  Belly Bop on Gratitude, my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher

This quilt is for sale in my quilt shop.  You can see it right here.

Laurel Queen Size Quilt Kit

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I can reveal some of last year's Secret Sauce Sewing!  Laurel is a queen size quilt pattern I designed for Bluprint in June of 2019 with their beautiful new fabric collection, Dutch Garden III.

Laurel is a square medallion quilt with wide borders centered around a giant star, and it's made with very large HSTs and squares which make the quilt go together very quickly.  I made this quilt sample in two days, from cutting to binding; it is quick!

Yes, I do have an orange wall in my house!  Both of my boys {men, actually} moved out last year, and I've only painted one of their bedrooms.  This room with the orange wall is on my to-paint list.

I used wool batting in this quilt to emphasize the quilting and to minimize fold lines when it is displayed.

Dutch Garden has been such a bestseller at Bluprint that this is now the third collection by the name.  There is something very sweet about blue and yellow quilts.  I love the high quality of the fabric; it has a substantial feel to it with a tight weave, and a soft hand.

Would you believe that this picture below is approximately my height?!?  Too funny, right!?  The quilt is 96" square and over half of it is displayed, then adding in the height off of the floor - approximately 5', and that is me!  You can't tell it's that height just by looking at the picture though, but wouldn't it be comical with me standing next to it?!?  :)

The queen size quilt kit is available only at Bluprint, and the pattern is not available separately at this time.  You will find the quilt kit right over here.

Summer on the Porch Queen Quilt

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Summer on the Porch hanging on my clothesline, a flashback to the warm, sunny days of summer.

This is the quilt that I broke the clothesline with, not because of its weight, but because of my impatience.  You can read about that over here.

This quilt kit has 4.9 star reviews on Bluprint.  :)

This fabric collection is called Garden Party.  When you click on this link, you will see the entire collection, as well as other projects made from the collection.  My Gooseberry Pie design is also kitted in Garden Party, in addition to the cutest Christmas Stockings!  You'll see all of them right here.

This pattern was designed for Bluprint, and they've kitted it in Twin and Queen sizes.  I wanted to let you know that the quilt kit is now on sale!  You will find the deal right here.

Field Trip and Soda Shoppe Quilt Kits ... And My Picture Saga

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

If you love the sweet prints in the Strawberry Fizz fabric collection combined with old-fashioned quilt designs, today is your lucky day!  Two quilt kits I designed for Bluprint in Strawberry Fizz are on Bluprint's Maker's Black Friday Sale! And if you just love the fabric, this is the only way to get it since it's no longer available as yardage or precuts.

Last summer {2018}, I was asked to design two quilts that used a very specific group of fabrics - two sets of 9" x WOF strips, each with 19 prints in Strawberry Fizz.

The first quilt design I came up with is Field Trip.  This is an 80" square quilt that places the red fabrics in the center chains.  It's entirely strip pieced, of course, and goes together very quickly.  This quilt kit is a steal of a deal right here.

This is the Field Trip quilt I made to test the pattern.  It's made with Island Batik British Rose fabrics that I received as an Island Batik Ambassador last year.  The chains are turquoise in a flurry of pinks, purples, and reds.  This quilt sold in my quilt shop.

Next up is Soda Shoppe, another timeless design also made from two bundles, each with 19 pieces of 9" x WOF fabrics.  I sized the blocks to make the best use of the fabric.  Several of the quilters who posted a picture of their quilt on Bluprint added white sashing and cornerstones to increase the quilt size to a queen.  This is a Twin XL.  It's a steal of a deal right here.

This is the Soda Shoppe quilt I made to test the pattern.  Fabric is mostly Gooseberry by Vanessa Goertzen for Moda.  It's an older collection but is still available right here.  A few Bonnie and Camille prints were included for variety.  I didn't have enough of most of the fabrics to use the same print for the corner triangles on the 9-patches, so in many blocks I used two different fabrics, each placed in opposite corners from it's mate.  I love the extra scrappiness this adds to the quilt.

This quilt should be for sale, but I am having a hard time finding time to list all of my finished quilts for sale - I took a TON of pictures of about ten quilts with the wrong setting on the camera {Portrait, in case you're wondering} so they ended up partly out of focus, and then getting pictures from the phone to the computer and time to do it all..........  Plus, I'm not so sure I want to sell this one.  I just ♥♥♥ it!!

To see everything for sale at Bluprint's Maker's Black Friday sale, click right here.  This link will take you to all of the goodness.

Getting photos from an iPhone to a PC can be tricky.  I used to email them to myself, but this is SO time consuming on the phone and then on the computer.  The solution I found to easily get pictures from the phone to the computer is via Prime Photos, a free service if you already have Amazon Prime.  It must not be advertised a bunch, because I had never heard about it until I googled the cheapest places to store photos online.  You can set it to automatically upload pictures from your phone (Android or iPhone) to the app, and then download the app onto a computer (PC or Mac) so the pictures are available in both places.  Score!  Check out Prime Photos right here.

Summer on the Porch Queen Quilt | Finished {or Not!} Friday Linky Party!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Welcome to Finished {or Not!} Friday where you can share what you're working on and see what others have been making!

First off, in celebration of the 4th, all quilt patterns are on sale in my pattern shop on Etsy.  Click here to save.

My Finish is some #SecretSauceSewing!  I can finally show you Summer on the Porch, a two block design made from the sweetest floral fabrics in aqua, red, pink, green, and navy.  The quilt kit is available in twin and queen size, and this is the queen.

There is a story behind this quilt hanging on my clothesline, and it has a sad part, so skip to the next picture if you don't want to hear a sad tale.  :{  I made this quilt and the Gooseberry Pie quilt that was posted last Friday in five days from start to finish.  Yes, cutting to binding in five days, one full size and one queen size quilt.  NOT recommended by any means, but required because I was heading out of town and had to have them returned to Bluprint before I left.  So I am super stressed for time but still want pictures of them because I take pictures of all of my quilts, and the pictures I take are very different than Bluprint's pictures.  {Mine are raw, and real, and theirs are professional.}

Anyway, it's really windy, I have no time, and I'm stressed, and no one is home to help me keep the quilt off the grass or off the mossy furnace unit that is next to the clothesline.  I get this quilt on the line, lay beach towels over the grass/dirt to keep the quilt clean when it drags a bit as I advance the quilt on the clothesline away from the house.  {I have a clothesline off my back porch were I stand in one place and the clothesline goes around a pulley as I pull on the line, so the clothesline moves and I don't have to.}  I did mention it's windy, and quilt pictures do not work in the wind.  At all.  So I wait and wait for the quilt to somewhat hang down for a sorta decent picture.  I get this picture above {and for full disclosure, I edited this picture in Photoshop to get it to look even straighter than it was.}

Then I start to pull the clothesline back in, and it is so windy that I can't keep it off the mossy furnace, which means I simply cannot pull it in; it will be a mess if I do.  If someone is home, they could hold it while I pull it in, but no one is home.  So I get angry.  I am in a hurry {I've got to get this quilt packaged for FedEx}, I'm stressed, and I get angry.  I should tell you that I don't get angry very often.  Ever since working on my digestive issues and SIBO, I hardly ever get angry.  The black cloud of anger that hovered over my head for at least 20 years is gone, for which I thank the Lord.  But I am angry.  I go out to the quilt, bundle it in my arms, and give it a good YANK.  And oh yes, the quilt comes down, clips and all, and so does the clothesline.  OOPS.  Fast forward.  My sweet husband fixes it for me.  Yes, he is a dear.  End of sad story with a good ending.  :)

This is a picture I took that day of the quilt on my bed.  Post anger.

These are professional Bluprint pictures.

Gooseberry Pie Quilt | Finished {or Not!} Friday Linky Party!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Welcome to Finished {or Not!} Friday where you can share what you're working on and see what others have been making!

My Finish is some #SecretSauceSewing!  I can finally show you Gooseberry Pie, a pieced star design made from HSTs and the sweetest floral fabrics in aqua, red, pink, green, and navy.

Gooseberry Pie was designed over 14 months ago.   Sometimes it takes fabric a long time to make the required number of trips around the world before it can be released from the fabric gremlins.  :)

Gooseberry Pie has been kitted by Bluprint and measures 84" square, a full/double bed size.  It would also be a beautiful coverlet on a larger bed.

The smallest of the HSTs in the quilt aren't overly small, and they're mixed with a lot of very large HSTs, so the quilt top goes together fairly quickly.  I know it does - I made this quilt and a queen size quilt in this same fabric collection in five days, from start to finish.  I do NOT recommend that you make it at that speed, that's for sure.  :)

Quilt Stats:
Pattern:  Gooseberry Pie
Size:  84" x 84"
Fabric:  Garden Party by Bluprint
Backing:  A print from the collection.
Quilting: Allover feathers on Gratitude in bright white thread
Binding:  A print from the collection.
