Winter Solstice Throw Quilt in Peppered Cottons!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing a Winter Solstice Throw quilt that I made in 2020.  Uh, well, better late posting it than never!

Winter Solstice combines oversized star and Irish Chain blocks for a super quick finish.  The Irish Chains are made with two different grays for an added twist.

The Winter Solstice quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts pattern shop.

Winter Solstice Quilt Pattern

The Winter Solstice quilt pattern includes two sizes - Throw and Queen.  This quilt is the Throw size.  The design is exactly the same in both sizes, but with different sized blocks.  The large blocks go together delightfully quickly and still result in a stunning quilt design.

     Queen Bed

A Rainbow of Goodness

This Winter Solstice quilt is made with a rainbow of Peppered Cottons.  I won a FQ bundle a number of years ago, and it sat around just waiting for the perfect quilt, and this is it!

You'll find Peppered Cottons right here.

For fabric selection, choose three colorways and gather three hues (light, medium, and dark) in each of the five colorways.  Then add a background color (black is shown), and add two colors for the Irish Chain blocks (light and medium gray shown).

The Throw size uses a FQ or less of each of the rainbow of colors for the star blocks, and the Queen size uses 1/2 yard or less of each of the colors.

Longarm Quilting

Unfortunately, I cannot find the name of the longarm quilting design in my design file.  It was stitched in black thread on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher.

The Winter Solstice quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts pattern shop.

Shooting Stars Quilt Pattern - The Throw Size in Belle Isle by Moda!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

I have a fun patriotic quilt to share today!  This is Shooting Stars, a new quilt pattern for you!

Of course, Shooting Stars can be made in your favorite colors and doesn't have to be Americana.

Shooting Stars Quilt Pattern

The Shooting Stars quilt pattern is a great way to let a large print focus sparkle as the star points.  The oversized floral from the Belle Isle collection is perfect for the points.

The Irish Chain quilt blocks are made with two different fabrics placed in opposite directions in the block and then alternating directions across the quilt top.

Red White and Blue Fabrics!

This Shooting Stars quilt is the Throw size, made in the Belle Isle fabric collection by Minick and Simpson for Moda Fabrics by my professional sewist, Kare.  She enjoyed making the large star blocks.

Belle Isle includes florals in several sizes, large, medium, and small, as well as dots, plaids, and tone-on-tones.  The background is a very light cream, not quite a true bright white.

Two Sizes Included

The Shooting Stars quilt pattern includes the Throw and Queen sizes, and the design of both sizes is exactly the same with larger blocks in the Queen size.  Thus, this is a fairly quick Queen size quilt to make.

Longarm Quilting

This quilt is quilted with Pirouette in cream thread on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher.

Ava's Garden has been kitted by Connecting Threads in Wild Crimson in the Twin size!  This is a twist on a classic design and is oh so sparkly!

The Wild Crimson fabric collection is a great mix of shades of blue, deep red, tan, and cream with a lot of blenders that are so easy to work with.

The large blocks in Ava's Garden go together quickly, and would you believe this is a layer cake friendly quilt pattern?  Yep!  Toss in a few other fabrics and go!

An Ava's Garden Quilt I've Made

This is the Twin size Ava's Garden in Smitten and Little Snippets.  This quilt has dark indigo Irish chains in comparison to the cream-colored chains in the Wild Crimson quilt.

Truth - I forgot to add the narrow navy border and didn't notice until after it was quilted.  I can laugh now, but it wasn't so funny at the time.  I had to add a border to the picture for the pattern cover since the pattern includes one.

Winter Solstice Rainbow Throw Quilt!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

This week's finish is a Winter Solstice Throw quilt in a rainbow of Peppered Cottons.  The gray chains are made with two shades of gray for added texture.  These quilt blocks were made to test the pattern last spring, and they were set aside until this week.

Winter Solstice has been kitted by Connecting Threads in Faux Linen, a lovely textured-looking fabric in solid-ish colors.  Our color schemes are very similar which is amazing since I was just using a fat quarter bundle I had on hand.

Twisted Irish Chain Craftsy Class - One of My Favorites!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

I made this lap quilt in Bee My Honey fabrics in Amy Gibson's Twisted Irish Chain class several years ago.  I love the way she teaches, and this traditional design just seems to be timeless.  I still love this quilt and use it as a piano bench cover in the living room.  I have another WIP in this pattern wishing it could be finished soon, and I'm hoping to do that!

This pattern is also found in The Simple Simon Guide to Patchwork Quilting by Liz Evans and Elizabeth Evans.

Today only get any Craftsy class for $19.99 or less!  This is a great day to buy one of the more expensive Craftsy classes.  My two favorite Craftsy classes are Pre-Cut Piecing Made Simple by Camille Roskelley, which includes the Swoon quilt pattern, and The Twisted Irish Chain by Amy Gibson.

Double Irish Chain Twin/Full Quilt in Red, Pink, and White

Double Irish Chain, Full Size, in Read and White
After taking the Custom String Quilt off the quilt rack to ship to my customer, I decided to take more pictures of the Double Irish Chain Quilt I made last year.  She never did get her time of honor, appreciation, and pictures on the quilt rack in my living room, so today she is hanging there in all her sweet simplicity!
Double Irish Chain, Full Size, in Read and White
This Double Irish Chain is much more appealing than staring at a bare wall, don't ya think?  At least until the next bed-sized quilt is done ... which will be just a few days!
