Help with Colors Bleeding When Washing a Quilt

Remember the Red White Irish Chain quilt that bled in the wash and the white vine fabric turned pink?  You can read about that in a previous post.  Sarah Craig at Confessions of a Fabric Addict left me a comment recommending washing it with Shout Color Catchers and OxyClean.  I used both of these products and re-washed the quilt, and the pink became quite a bit lighter; not quite back to white, but much lighter.  I will for sure be using this when washing all quilts in the future!  Thanks, Sarah!

I had to re-take the pictures so they were accurate in my Etsy shop, but today is too windy to take any outside, and the new pictures aren't as nice as the outdoor shots.

A Gift From My Sister

From my sister I received these too-cute measuring cups and spoons in country red, complete with chickens!  Thanks sis!  I separated them from the ring they came on because I bake ... a lot ... you can see my serious mixers in the background - a Bosch bread mixer and a KitchenAid.

Laundry Room Curtain

Wow, it has been almost two years since Mr. Hearts installed the cabinets in the laundry room.  You can read about the project here.  Here are some new pictures because just today I made the curtain to hide the bins above the washer.  The bins hold out-of-season decorations, and Millie got into the boxes today to set out our winter decorations.

This is a picture taken today before the curtain was hung.  Come on in and feel at home - I didn't bother to clean up for you!

New deep red and cream flannel checkered curtain.  It matches the floor, which you can see in the last pics below.

I did clean up a little for this picture.  I am still amazed at how the cabinets fit the room almost perfectly with very little adjustment.  You can read in this post about these $250 cabinets we got off of Craigslist - after getting quotes from $10,000 to $17,000 for custom cabinets.  I love my old cabinets; they were the very same old-fashioned style I was asking the cabinetmakers to build, painted creamy yellow and all. 

And I am still loving this rolling laundry basket.  I bought it first and then had Mr. Hearts figure out a place for it.  It fits perfectly underneath the counter on which my grain mill sits.  The counter had to be lower so the grain mill would fit under the wall cabinet above.  The idea of this rolling laundry basket was that it would easily roll out the back door {just to the left} to carry wet laundry to the clothesline.  I found out that the rolling cart does not hang clothes on the line by iteself, imagine that!  This past summer the sun was a rare sight here, at least on days I did laundry, and when the sun came this fall, it was too cold to dry clothes in a timely manner.  But I still really like the basket and having an open wire basket where damp clothes / rags don't mold if they don't get laundered right away like they always did in a closed plastic bin, and I use the top valet bar for hanging clothes out of the dryer.

These two pics show the other side of the room.  Coat hooks, shelves, and cabinets galore!  Mr. Hearts planned it out well!
