A New Waterfall Throw Quilt in Moda Grunge!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing with you a new Waterfall Throw quilt made in Moda Grunge fabrics.  This is a sparkly, vibrant quilt, and I ♥ it!!  The pieced setting triangles finish the design clear out to the edges for a truly stunning quilt design.

The Waterfall quilt pattern and supplement are available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

IF YOU'RE LOCATED OUTSIDE OF THE US, UK, OR AU

If you are located outside of the United States, UK, or Australia, you will need to shop my patterns on Etsy.  This is because pattern sales to some countries is so high that their government is requiring we collect and submit taxes to them.  We don't have the manpower to track and pay the taxes to other countries.  Etsy takes care of all taxes for sellers, so we are sending customers outside of the US, UK, and AU to our Etsy shop.

Click here to shop on Etsy.  Alternatively, the links on this page will redirect you to my Etsy shop, if needed.

WATERFALL QUILT SIZES

The Waterfall quilt pattern includes two sizes - Throw and Queen.  There is a supplement available for the Twin and King sizes.  These sizes aren't found in the original pattern because they aren't symmetrical in two opposite corners, so I didn't think to include them.  I had so many questions on how to make the King size that I wrote the Supplement.

COLORWASH OMBRE FABRIC SELECTION

Waterfall is all about letting the fabric shine!  I love the gradating ombre colorwash effect in this quilt design.  The colors just blend, mesh, meld {so many words!} together in a soothing way.

It's easier to get this effect than you think.  Here's how you create it yourself:
  • Grab the pattern.
  • Select two colorways that meld together.
  • Gather five hues of each of the two colorways, ranging from light to dark.
  • Add in a very light for the block centers and a very dark for the sashing.
The pattern gives specific instructions for fabric placement in each block, so it's easy peasy to keep each fabric in its place.

The Waterfall quilt pattern and supplement are available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

FABRICS USED IN THIS QUILT

This quilt is made entirely with Moda Grunge Dots and Seeing Stars fabric, including the sashing, backing, and binding.  The exact fabric numbers and names and where they are placed are included in the quilt pattern.

Unfortunately, Moda is no longer printing Hits the Spot or Seeing Stars prints in the Grunge collection.  I bought this fabric a few years ago and didn't get around to finishing it until recently.

The backing is Hash Dot in Turquoise by Michael Miller fabrics.  The binding is the black Grunge print used in the quilt top.

IDEAS FOR FABRIC SELECTION

Follow this blog for notification of when I post fabric collections I find that will work well in Waterfall.  As stated before, not many collections have 5 prints in each of 2 colorways.

An idea is to take the pattern to a well-stocked local quilt shop and shop the Batik section.  The variation in Batiks fabrics is perfect for the Waterfall design, adding depth and sheen to the quilt top. Or, if you're lucky, you might find an online quilt shop owner who will curate a bundle for you from their inventory.

LOG CABIN DESIGN

Waterfall is a log cabin quilt pattern set on point with pieced setting triangles which make the design flow out to the edges of the quilt for a stunning effect.  The setting triangles for each side and the four corners are all different, but don't let that scare you!  Directions are given for exactly how to make this happen.  Easy peasy!

LONGARM MACHINE QUILTING

The Waterfall quilt top was pieced by Kare Ybarra , one of my quilt top makers/pattern testers.  The quilting is Wave on Wave, done on my Handi Quilter Amara with ProStitcher in medium blue thread.

The Wave on Wave longarm design is versatile, because it looks pretty much the same whether it's placed horizontally on the quilt top or vertically.  This meant that I was able to place the side (long edge) of the quilt top on the longarm rails, and the quilting stitched out from the actual top of the quilt top to bottom, and the design still looks like swirling water in a waterfall.  If you don't quilt on a longarm, this probably doesn't make any sense to you, so no worries!

NO SEAMS TO MATCH UP

Waterfall has no seams to match up at any point, other than making sure blocks are lined up when the sashed rows are joined together.  How sweet is that?!?

The Waterfall quilt pattern and supplement are available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Three Waterfall Quilts Made by Our Customers!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

I absolutely love when my customers send pictures of their quilts that they put a lot of love and time into.  The amount of creativity and talent these people have is awe-inspiring.  Not only do I love getting sent pictures of people's finished quilts, I also love sharing them with you!

I am pleased to announce that Busy Hands Quilts is officially on Facebook.  We have designed a Busy Hands Quilts Facebook Group where everyone is encouraged to share their finished quilts in my patterns as well as its story.  I am both amazed and grateful for the amount of activity that has already taken place in the group and awestruck with all of the talent that everyone seems to possess.

When you have witnessed a gift people have made using your patterns, it is a must to share it with others.  So I thought it would be worthwhile sharing some of these creations with you and others who are keen on quilting in my patterns in hopes to inspire more people to create fun and unique quilts of their own.

The following quilts were made by three different customers of mine.  Each person did their own unique spin on the Waterfall quilt pattern.

The Waterfall quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Finished Quilt by Tamme

The above and below pictures were submitted by Tamme, one of our customers at Busy Hands Quilts, who created an absolutely stunning quilt in our Waterfall pattern!  This is one of my favorite designs.  I love the colors that this person used and how they all blended so well together.

The Waterfall Quilt Pattern

Waterfall is a multi-sized log cabin quilt pattern with unique setting triangles to finish the stunning design clear out to the edge.  Hues of two colors create a gradating ombre colorwash that just draws you in with its beauty.  Simply choose five hues from light to dark in two colorways, add a light fabric for the center squares and a very dark color for the sashing.

The Waterfall quilt pattern includes specific instructions for fabric placement, so where each fabric goes is clear at every step of the quilt-making process.  This pattern includes two size options - Throw and Queen.

The Waterfall quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Finished Quilt by Mary Collins and Granddaughter Aly LoVerde

The above quilt was made by Busy Hands Quilts customer, Mary Collins and her granddaughter Aly LoVerde.  They both created this magnificent quilt in my Waterfall quilt pattern for an exchange student.  The colors used are blues and purple grunge that was quilted by Loretta.  I am just amazed with how this quilt turned out! It's absolutely beautiful!

Finished Quilt by Sue

The final customer who created her own eye-catching quilt was done by Busy Hands Quilts customer, Sue.  I quite adore the different variations of greens in this quilt.  I think it worked out quite well.  Sue did a remarkable job!

Share the love!

I love getting sent finished quilts by people who use my patterns and I especially love getting the opportunity to share them with you!  If you are interested in sharing your work with us, please take a good quality photo of your finished quilt in my pattern and post it in the Busy Hands Quilts Facebook Group.  And don't just share pictures, share its story!  I always love hearing how your quilt came to be, who it's for, and what drew you to its pattern.

The Waterfall quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Waterfall Quilt by Judy - a Double Size!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing a stunning Waterfall quilt made by Judy in purples and greens!  She made this quilt for her granddaughter and cut it down to a Double from the Queen size.  Isn't it beautiful?!?

The Waterfall quilt pattern includes the Throw and Queen sizes and uses hues from two colorways to create an ombre effect.  The unique setting triangles carry the design clear out to the edges of the quilt.  Cutting off the edge of the quilt to make the quilt smaller does change the design, but as you can see, is still very effective.

The Waterfall quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Waterfall Quilts by Laura for Her Grandsons!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Laura made two Waterfall quilts for two grandsons, and they turned out beautifully!  Shades of teal up one side and shades of blue down the other side, finished off with circular quilting reflecting water.  Laura enlarged the quilts by adding a border around the edge.  They are lovely gifts for her grandsons!

The Waterfall quilt pattern includes two sizes - Throw and Queen - because that's what worked out mathematically without borders or a ginormous quilt (119" wide!!).  Some quilters have increased quilt sizes by changing the edge blocks on one side to whole blocks and adding a row of half blocks to that side.

The Waterfall quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Waterfall Quilt Kits

There are Waterfall quilt kits in stock in aquas and blues in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.  Both the Throw and Queen sizes are currently available.
