GRAVITY Stellar Wall Hanging {A Finish!}

I finally completed my GRAVITY Stellar Pillow, just one day before the link-up ends tomorrow!  There's still time to enter your pillow or wall hanging.  All entries receive a free PDF quilt pattern from my pattern shop.

I finished my Stellar as a wall hanging rather than a pillow and even remembered to put a rod pocket on the back!  I plan to hang it in my dining room with a thin wooden rod and Command hooks.  These hooks are a great way to hang small quilts without damaging the wall and to make it simple to change decorations.

The layout of my quilt is similar to the original but different.  Not because I wanted it different, but do you have any idea how hard it is to match 100 different colors and get them in the same position?  I did place a primary color hexagon a bit off center, like the pattern, and worked out from that.

To quilt it, I used zigzags with the original pillow by Julie as a guide.  For the backing I used the same rainbow petal fabric that I used on the back of my GRAVITY quilt.  The binding is Kona Royal.  Pretty much any Kona color would work for the binding!

The first two rows I assembled went really slowly without chain piecing.  UGG. So with the book handy, I arranged the triangles in stacks and used a hair clip to remember which pile to take from next and chain pieced them!  Much faster!  I finger pressed the triangles open before adding the next triangle and did an official ironing when the rows were completed.

I have a second pile of triangles cut (100+) and would like to offer them to a reader.  Also included are all of the white triangles and diamonds needed to complete the quilt as shown in the book.  I will not be including directions to complete the quilt because that is copyright, but I know you can figure out how to put it together from pictures you find online.  The price is $25, including shipping, to the US only.  It may seem a bit high, but please remember they took a long time to cut.  The first one to request 'em gets 'em.  If no one here wants them, I'll list the set in my Etsy shop in one week.

It was amazing to review the stats for my blog this year!  Here are the details:

Midnight Mystery Quilt Along {Aug/Sept Progress}

Some of my Sewing For Me time this month is getting caught up on quilt alongs I began in 2015.  I've finished August and September clues for the Midnight Mystery Quilt Along.  Those flying geese were nearly the death of me!  They are made with a scant 1/4" seam, and I made them twice with what I thought was a scant seam, and they are still a bit small.  Nope, not making 'em again; I will be able to fudge them in.  Fortunately the square-in-a-square blocks were simple and trimmed up perfectly.

And in case you're a new reader and don't know what Sewing For Me is - I make a lot of custom quilts and don't quilt for myself very often.  I'm taking the month of December to sew for me!

GRAVITY Quilt Along {Pillows!}

   Cheers  erupt,  confetti  falls,  and  happy  dance  begins!!

Allietare Mystery Quilt Along {Parts 1 & 2}

This is the second Bonnie Hunter Mystery QAL I've participated in {Grand Illusion being the first}, and once again it will be a dot version!  I've changed my mind for colors in the Allietare Mystery Quilt Along! They are now Kona Snow along with dotted and solid reds, royal blues/navys, grays, and AQUAS!  Yellow has been replaced with aqua to blend more with the Miss Kate dining room curtains I recently made.  I don't have a picture to show you because the aquas haven't been purchased yet - which makes this quilt no longer 100% from the stash, but still 80% stash.

I'm mostly current with Parts 1 & 2.  Making about 2/3 to 3/4 of the recommended number of pieces to make a smaller quilt is speeding the process.  The tiny half-square triangles went together in a snap with my new Accuquilt Go! HST cutter!  I wouldn't have begun this QAL without it after I saw how many HSTs were in the first step, and since we're not supposed to give details, I'll just say - there are LOADS.  Anyway, the HSTs need pressed open, and the miscellaneous squares for step 2 need cut - nothing major left.  I've a project that is due tomorrow that must be finished today, so that's the priority!
