A Sweet Caroline Queen Quilt in Botanical Blue!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm so happy to finally share this Sweet Caroline quilt with you!  This is the Queen size made with Botanical Blue.

This quilt is a wedding gift for my son and his wife.

Over a year ago, when I asked my daughter-in-law what quilt she would like for their wedding gift, she chose the Sweet Caroline quilt in the Throw size which you can see right here.  Fast forward to last October, one year after their wedding, and the quilt still wasn't made.  I asked her if she still wanted the same pattern and fabrics that she had chosen the previous year, and she said Yes!

Sweet Caroline in Botanical Blue in the Queen size is finally finished!

This is the Queen size which measures approximately 93" x 107" which is a very generous queen size.  It will be like a bedspread on their full size bed, and they definitely won't be fighting over the covers!  :)

The fabric is Botanical Blue from Connecting Threads, which is completely sold out now.  Fortunately, I had purchased what I needed when she originally chose this fabric over a year ago.  Even at that point, I was pretty late to the game to collect some of the Botanical Blue prints, so I ended up purchasing two quilt kits to get the fabrics in the lengths needed.

Connecting Threads has a similar current fabric collection called Tea Service Vol 2, available right here.

The backing and binding of this quilt are from the Tea Service Vol 2 collection, not the Botanical Blue collection.  The medium blues in the two collections are just a very tiny amount different, but they still blend well.

The tiny label next to the Busy Hands Quilts label says I ♥ You on a red heart, a special label reserved for special peeps!

The Sweet Caroline Quilt Pattern

Sweet Caroline is a strip pieced quilt pattern that includes 4 sizes - Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.  It's a fairly simple pattern, as long as your seam allowance is accurate so the strip sets end up the correct height so everything fits together well.

Fabric placement is key to the Sweet Caroline design.  See the three navy squares in the middle of the patchwork blocks that rotate every other block?  This is planned, and the pattern tells you exactly how to get those fabrics to land there!

The backing and binding are from the Tea Service Vol 2 fabric collection, which is available right here.  This is an extra-wide fabric which is perfect for this Queen sized quilt.  I love this floral!  It also comes in a navy blue background which is equally stunning.

The binding is the navy/medium blue gingham from the collection.  Gingham makes beautiful bindings!

Longarm Quilting

My daughter-in-law chose Flower Spray for the quilting design.  This is a digital design, done on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher in medium blue thread.

See the gentle pouf of the quilting on the quilt?  That's the batting inside.  It's Tuscany Wool.  You'll find it right here.   I put wool batting in all bed quilts that I plan to keep or give to family members.  It's breathable and cool or warm, whichever your body needs.

Wool is also a good option for quilts that will be hung since it resists fold marks when it is folded and comes out fairly flat when hung again.

Sweet Caroline is yardage or precut friendly.  If you have a bunch of medium-colored strips, they're perfect for Sweet Caroline.

There are two versions of Sweet Caroline.  The second version, Sweet Caroline II, uses five fabrics with specific placement instead of a wide assortment of fabrics as in Sweet Caroline.  The Sweet Caroline II  quilt pattern is available right here.

Sweet Caroline Throw Quilt by Judy!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing one of your quilts!  This is a Sweet Caroline quilt made by Judy in the Throw size with extra borders added in order to qualify as a Quilt of Valor.

Judy changed up the quilt pattern by using a number of gray fabrics as the background in the blocks, placing red squares in only the blocks down the center of the quilt, as well as the red sashing on the outer blocks, and the extra wide outer border.  It turned out just perfect, didn't it?!?

Sweet Caroline II Quilt Pattern - Gray and Yellow One in Twin Size!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing an oh-so-sweet Sweet Caroline II quilt in modern gray and yellow!

So Many Sizes!

Sweet Caroline II includes 4 sizes - Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.  My patterns include as many sizes as possible.  I do love spoiling you!

This quilt is the Twin size.

Oh Those Fabrics!

This Sweet Caroline II quilt is made with just five fabrics.  Three yellows (all from an older V and Co fabric collection), white, and a mottled gray.  The pattern tells you where to place the fabrics so the yellows end up in the middle of the patchwork blocks.

It's Entirely Strip Pieced - Of Course!

A trademark feature in my patterns is strip piecing whenever possible.  Life is about making more quilts, so let's make them quicker!  You will not be sewing individual squares together; you'll be sewing strip sets, sub-cutting them, and then sewing them together to make blocks.  It's oh-so-fun and quick!

Longarm Quilting

The quilting design is Woven Wind, a digital design, quilted on my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher in gray thread.  I love the old-fashioned look of this design that takes old-fashioned, modern quilts to a whole 'nother level!  Is that an oxymoron?

This quilt top was made by Kare and quilted and bound by me.

Sweet Caroline and Sweet Caroline II

You may have noticed that I also have a Sweet Caroline quilt pattern, in addition to Sweet Caroline II. Hmm, why is that?  I'm glad you asked!  Sweet Caroline is made with a variety of medium and dark prints, and Sweet Caroline II is made with just five fabrics.  The first pattern didn't make sense when using only five fabrics, so a new pattern had to be written for it to make sense.

Sweet Caroline Queen Quilt in Blue and Yellow!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing a bright and happy Sweet Caroline quilt with you!  This is a Queen size quilt set with two pillow shams.

Four Quilt Sizes

The Sweet Caroline quilt pattern includes 4 sizes - Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.  It doesn't include the Baby size because the math didn't work out for that.  This is the Queen size, which is rectangular with a pillow tuck.  The pattern does not include instructions for pillow shams.  I use this book to make quilted pillow shams.

Quick and Easy with Strip Piecing

Sweet Caroline is a quick and easy quilt pattern, made entirely with strip piecing!  Also included are pressing instructions so all of the seams nest together which makes block assembly and quilt top assembly so quick.  :)  That's my type of quilt!  This quilt top was made by Joanne, one of my sewists, and quilted and bound by me.

Beautiful Blue and Yellow Fabrics

This quilt is made with Boundless Dutch Garden II, a retired fabric collection.  This collection works so well for Sweet Caroline because there are a few shades of blues, bright blue, as well as medium blue.  You'll find that many blue and white fabric collections would work to recreate this quilt.  You could also use fabrics in your stash.

Longarm Quilting

This Sweet Caroline quilt set was quilted with Wandering Rose, a digital design, on my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher in bright white thread.  This design is a lovely mix of roses and feathers which I use quite often.

Custom Quilt

This quilt set is a custom order, made to my customer's specifications.  She saw the Twin size quilt exactly like this in my shop and fell in love with it and ordered a Queen size for their guest room.

Sweet Caroline Quilt Pattern - Twin Size in Dutch Garden!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Sweet Caroline is a patchwork delight in blues and yellows!  This is a Twin size quilt.

Sweet Caroline quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts pattern shop.

DUTCH GARDEN SWEET CAROLINE TWIN QUILT

Sweet Caroline is a quick and easy strip pieced quilt made using yardage of medium and dark hues in a single colorway or, as in the Dutch Garden version, two colorways - blue and yellow.

This beautiful blue and yellow fabric collection is Dutch Garden by Bluprint, sadly no longer available.  It shouldn't be too difficult to find a substitute though; either an entire collection, or combining fabrics from the stash.

FEATHERED ROSES QUILTING DESIGN

Perfectly complementing the quilt top is Feathered Roses, a fairly wide edge-to-edge digital design.  Sweet Caroline is quilted in bright white thread.

Borrowed from my daughter's book collection, The Fellowship of the Ring, Heidi, and Heidi Grows Up.  And a small globe leftover from our homeschooling days.  :)
This beautiful quilt finished off beautifully with a yellow polka dot border from my stash (not part of Dutch Garden) and a blue border from the collection.

FABRIC PLACEMENT TO REPRODUCE THIS QUILT

This quilt is easily reproducible with your own fabrics.  Use medium yellows and blues as Assorted Medium Prints, and use darker yellows and blues as Assorted Darker Prints where called for in the pattern.
The backing fabric is a small ditsy floral from the Dutch Garden collection, also used for the binding.

Quilt Stats:

Fabric:  Dutch Garden by Bluprint
