Today I am sharing the Kindred quilt pattern!  Kindred is a stash-busting modern fat quarter quilt design.  Pattern includes 5 sizes for you to work with - Baby, Throw, Twin XL, Queen, and King.

Kindred has been kitted in the baby size by Connecting Threads in their fabric collection, Pattern Play.  This quilt kit includes a pattern plus fabric for the quilt top and binding.  Backing fabric and binding are not included in this design.  Connecting Threads chose natural sherbet shades to make this cozy modern farmhouse blanket.

Look how charming this quilt looks!  Uses subtle secondary designs that float across the quilt top to create amazing movement.  You can choose your favorite light and dark accent colors that contrast well with your fat quarters.  A quilt like Kindred will surely make a happy lasting impact in your home!

Kindred Throw Quilt Pattern - Another look at the Blues, Aqua and Yellow One!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing the Kindred quilt in cool tones.  I have lots of pictures that I haven't shared yet, so here we go!

Kindred is an easy quilt pattern that goes together so nicely.  The quilt pattern includes pressing instructions so all of the seams nest, which makes assembling the quilt top a breeze.

The Throw size Kindred quilt uses only 15 fat quarters.

The Kindred quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

The Kindred Quilt Pattern

Kindred is an easy quilt pattern that combines HST blocks with strips to create the blocks.  The design creates subtle secondary designs across the quilt top.  These hidden designs were a pleasant surprise when I made the quilt top, as they weren't visible on a digital mockup.

The Kindred quilt pattern includes five sizes and is fat quarter friendly, in addition to two accent fabrics.  This is a great pattern to use your stash of fat quarters.

  • Baby - 8 FQs
  • Throw - 15 FQs
  • Twin XL - 24 FQs
  • Queen - 36 FQs
  • King - 41 FQs

Those Beautiful Cool Fabrics!

This Kindred quilt is made with a Boundless fat quarter bundle that I had in my stash.  The fat quarter bundle includes modern prints, most that read as solids, in blues, aquas, yellows, and a splash of green.  Along with the print fat quarters, Kona Cotton Solids in White and Riviera are used as the accent fabrics.

Optionally, the binding can be cut from the fat quarters for a scrappy binding, and the binding on this quilt is scrappy.  It adds such a fun finish to the quilt.  The pattern also includes the yardage needed for the binding if a single fabric is desired.

The backing on this quilt is a wide back called Vine Maze which we stock in The Wide Back Shop.  It's a great print that hides the quilt stitching on the back of the quilt, which most of the time is my preference.  I like when the quilting blends into the backing fabric rather than standing out.

Longarm Machine Quilting

The quilting design is Curling Ribbons, done in white thread on my HandiQuilter Fusion with Pro-Stitcher.  It's one of my favorite quilting designs and works so well on many quilts.  It adds lovely texture to both the front and back of the quilt.

Here you can see a good view of the backing fabric.  We carry this backing fabric in navy, as well as red in The Wide Back Shop.

The brightly-colored quilt pictured on the ladder is Gridwork, a Busy Hands Quilts design.   That pattern includes four sizes and is jelly roll friendly and super quick with strip piecing.  It can be found in our shop right here.

Kindred Throw Quilt in Notting Hill!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

It's exciting to share another quilt in Notting Hill - one of my favorite fabric collections!  I just love the blend of colors together, very softly muted but still with a lot of color; with florals, tone-on-tones, ginghams, and plaids.  It's so yummy!

Notting Hill is featured in a brand-new quilt pattern called Kindred.  This is a fat quarter friendly quilt pattern that features HSTs and log cabin-ish quilt blocks with accent fabrics that create secondary designs across the quilt top.

The Kindred quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

So Many Quilt Sizes!

The Kindred quilt pattern includes 5 quilt sizes - Baby, Throw, Twin XL, Queen, and King.

The Baby quilt size is 48" x 48" and uses 8 fat quarters.

The Throw quilt size is 60" x 72" and uses 15 fat quarters.  This quilt is the Throw size.

The Twin XL bed quilt is 72" x 96" and uses 24 fat quarters.

The Queen bed quilt is 96" x 108" and uses 36 fat quarters.

The King bed quilt is 108" x 108" and uses 41 fat quarters.

Precut Friendly Fat Quarter Quilt Pattern

The Kindred quilt pattern is a fat quarter friendly quilt pattern.  It's a great way to use up your fat quarter stash that you have on hand, or buy more if you need to.  Not every quilter has a stash!

Sweet Heart Fabrics is one of my favorite fabric shops on Etsy.  They have a great selection of fat quarter bundles that are perfect for the Kindred quilt pattern.

The Binding can be cut from the fat quarters in all of the quilt sizes, except the Baby.

This quilt top was made by my sewist, Kare.

The quilt hanging on the ladder is also made with Notting Hill fabrics.  The design is Skyline Divide, available right here.  Skyline Divide is jelly roll friendly, includes 5 sizes, and is strip pieced for a quick finish.

Oh Those Fabrics!

The fabrics in this quilt are the Notting Hill collection, designed by Amy Smart for Riley Blake.  I love the blend of the designs with the red, aqua, yellow, pink, and navy.   Notting Hill has been out for awhile, but it's still available in limited amounts.  You'll find these fabrics right here.  The dark accent is Windsor, and the light accent is white, both Kona Cotton Solids.

The backing fabric is a navy vine maze design on white, available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.  This backing is great at hiding the quilting on the back of the quilt.

This quilt was bound in Kona Cotton Solid in Windsor.  The binding could have been cut from the fat quarters, but I chose not to do that since I wanted to have the leftover strips available for a future quilt.  :)

The Kindred quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Longarm Quilting

This Throw size Kindred quilt is quilted with a Pinwheel design in white thread, done on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher.  The Pinwheels are made of half circles.

The Quilt Design

What surprised me about Kindred is the secondary designs that are seen as the blocks come together.  I didn't expect this, because the computer design software didn't show this.  It was only when the quilt was assembled that I first noticed it.  Such a pleasant surprise!  It isn't always apparent, and it seems like it's only apparent at certain angles.  :)

Kindred Quilt Pattern - The Cool Palette!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm excited to share the Kindred quilt pattern!  Kindred is the newest fat quarter friendly quilt pattern in the Busy Hands Quilts pattern line.

Kindred is an easy quilt pattern with secondary designs that catch the eye across the quilt top.  I didn't know this would happen until I sewed the quilt top; it didn't show up on the computer screen.

The Kindred quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Kindred Quilt Pattern

The Kindred quilt pattern is a fat quarter stash-busting quilt pattern.  This color combination of blues, aquas, greens, and yellows was a fat quarter bundle in my stash that turned out even prettier than I was expecting in the Kindred design.

Kindred comes in all of the sizes and can use a wide variety of fabrics, including prints and tonals.

The Binding can be cut from the fat quarters for all sizes except the Baby size.  The Binding on this quilt is from the fat quarters and thus, scrappy.

Fabric Selection

This quilt is made with a 1/2-yard bundle of fabric I had in my stash.  It is a Boundless bundle and is a mix from a lot of their collections, and I couldn't find a specific fabric collection name to share with you.

Because the pattern calls for 15 fat quarters for the Throw size and I had 1/2-yard cuts, a quilt kit was curated with the remaining fabrics and sold in my shop.

These exact fabrics are available from an Etsy seller right here.  There is enough fabric in the bundle to make two Throws or one Twin XL, with the addition of Accent fabrics.  The Binding fabric can be cut from the fat quarters as an option.

All of the Quilt Sizes

Kindred includes all of the quilt sizes from Baby all the way up to King.

Baby size  48" x 48"  8 FQs

Throw size  60" x 72"  15 FQs

Twin XL (perfect for dorm rooms)  72" x 96"  24 FQs

Queen  96" x 108"  36 FQs

King 108" x 108"  41 FQs

Kindred Longarm Quilting

The digital quilting design on this quilt is Ribbon Curls in white thread, quilted on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher.

Extra Wide Backing

Extra wide backing saves both time and money.  This quilt is backed with a navy print on white.  I like that there is enough white in it to hide the white thread from the quilting.  My preference is that the color of the quilting thread hides as much as possible on the back, but this may not even matter to you.

This wide back fabric is available in the Busy Hands Quilts Wide Back shop.

That pretty quilt on the quilt rack is a Gridwork quilt.  You can read about the quilt right here.

The Gridwork quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.
