Cottage Love Quilt Pattern - a Wall Hanging in Painterly Petals by Robert Kaufman!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing a bright and happy Cottage Love wall hanging quilt!  This is a quick and easy quilt pattern that you can make in a few hours for the Baby size, aka, Wall Hanging size.

Follow the Baby instructions to make the Wall Hanging size.  A hanging rod pocket is attached to this quilt for easy hanging, since I am thinking this fabric is not typical for a Baby quilt and is better suited as a Wall Hanging.

This bright watercolor quilt is made with fabrics from my stash - Painterly Petals by Robert Kaufman.  This is the older collection, and the newer collection is available right here.

Cottage Love is in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

This is the quilt I made to test the pattern, and to make sure the pressing instructions were correct and that the magic that I claimed happened (every seam nesting) really did happen.  And it does!

You may look at this quilt pattern and wonder why there are even nesting seams.  Hmm, it's not assembled in the way you might think.  It's a super quick and easy way to make this quilt, and there indeed are seams to nest.  :)

Stash-Friendly Quilt Pattern

The Cottage Love quilt pattern includes instructions for using 5" charm squares, 10" layer cake squares, and fat quarters (for Lap size and up).  All of these options make this a super stash-friendly quilt pattern, since you likely have these cuts in your stash already.

  • 5" charm squares
  • 10" layer cake squares
  • fat quarters
  • scrap bins (of course)
These Painterly Petals fabrics were in my stash, cut from a FQ bundle I had hoarded for several years and finally cut into last year to make a Through My Window quilt.  You can see that quilt right here.  The fabrics are so bright and colorful that making quilts with them is simply joyful!

All the Quilt Sizes

Cottage Love includes a huge number of quilt sizes - Seven!  There are two Throw sizes so you can make exactly the size that fits your purpose.  I love doing all of the math for you!

  • Baby / Wall Hanging  40" x 40"
  • Lap  40" x 50"
  • Throw  50" x 70"
  • Large Throw 60" x 80"
  • Twin  70" x 90"
  • Queen  100" x 100"
  • King  110" x 110"

The Cottage Love quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Those Bright Watercolor Fabrics!

This quilt is made with an older collection of Painterly Petals by Robert Kaufman which I had in my stash.  They have updated the collection, including a number of the same prints and also adding new prints.  It's even more spectacular than this collection, I think!  You'll find the new collection right here.

The deep blue background fabric is Kona Nightfall, a vivid navy that's not as dark as Kona Navy or Nautical.  This fabric is also used on the quilt back and binding.

Longarm Machine Quilting

The longarm quilting design used on this quilt is Belly Bop, a rounded version of Diagonal Bias Plaid.  Quilting is done in navy thread on my HandiQuilter Fusion with Pro-Stitcher.

The Cottage Love quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Granny's Square Patch Quilt in Love Note by Moda Fabrics!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Love Note by Lella Boutique for Moda works perfectly for with the Granny's Square Patch quilt pattern!  In this quilt, the chains are made with multiple colors, and in previous versions the chains have all been made with the same color.  I like this new look very much!  It's so cozy, farmhouse-y, and grandmother-ly!  The border is perfect for a focal print that pulls all of the fabrics together.

The quilt pattern includes 6 sizes - Baby, Lap, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King - and is strip pieced for a quick finish.

The Granny's Square Patch quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Good Morning Baby Quilt in Dream!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today's fun quilty share is a Good Morning quilt in the Baby size!  The blending of bright rainbow colors with gray gives way to a modern baby quilt that will keep the precious baby goggle-eyed and entertained!

Good Morning is a great pattern to use your scraps of scraps or jelly rolls, or use yardage of five colors to create an ombre effect.  Both methods are included in the quilt pattern, along with all of the quilt sizes, and strip piecing, as well.  I love to spoil you with all of those important details!  :)

The Good Morning quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

All of the Quilt Sizes

The Good Morning quilt pattern includes 5 sizes, so you don't have to do math; it's all figured out for you.  :)

  • Baby  38" x 50"  12 jelly roll strips or 1/4 yard or less of five fabrics
  • Throw  62" x 74"  24 jelly roll strips or 1/2 yard or less of five fabrics
  • Twin  66" x 90"  32 jelly roll strips or 5/8 yard or less of five fabrics
  • Queen  98" x 110"  56 jelly roll strips or 1-1/8 yard or less of five fabrics
  • King  110" x 110"  68 jelly roll strips or 1-3/8 yards or less of five fabrics

This quilt is 50" x 50" instead of 36" x 50" because I kept making blocks with the leftover segments.  No additional print strips were needed; more of the segments were utilized than the pattern states to use.  Add in a little extra of the background fabric and another binding strip, and you can do this, too.  In the quilt pattern, the baby size should have been 50" x 50", but the cat is out of the bag, we have a huge box of printed patterns in stock, and it's simply too late to change it now.

Two Block Style Options

The Good Morning quilt pattern includes two options for the blocks.
  • Make all of the blocks from the same five fabrics.  This is a great way to create an ombre effect with five hues from light to dark in a single colorway.  Or create a bubblegum effect with pink, orange, yellow, and lime green.  There are so many possibilities with only five prints!  Below are some examples.

  • Make scrappy blocks from a variety of prints.  This is a great way to use your scrap stash or jelly rolls.  The featured baby quilt is made with jelly roll strips cut from fat quarters.  The Americana version of Good Morning posted right here is another example of a scrappy Good Morning.  Here are some examples below.

Fun Rainbow Fabrics on Modern Gray

This Baby quilt is made with strips of Dream by Riley Blake which I cut from fat quarters.  The white prints from the collection were included to create sparkles across the quilt top, though they certainly could have been left out and only bright prints used.  The background fabric is Kona Cotton Ash.

The backing is Widescreen in Gray by Robert Kaufman, available in The Wide Back Shop at Busy Hands Quilts.  We try to keep this backing in stock because it goes perfectly on so many quilts, and so many of you agree, too.  :)  We spoil you with an extra 4" for free with each wide backing purchase in our shop.

The Good Morning quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Quick and Easy Quilt Pattern

The Good Morning quilt goes together very quickly with strip piecing.  You won't be cutting individual squares and piecing them together; sew strips together, then cut and resew, and magic happens!  There are no seams to match in the piecing of the blocks, so this is a perfect pattern for beginner quilters.

Longarm Machine Quilting

The longarm quilting design on this quilt is aptly called Rainbow Hearts.  It's the perfect design for rainbow quilts, and it stitches out so nicely with very few overlapping stitches.  Thread color is light gray.  Quilted on my HandiQuilter Fusion with Pro-Stitcher.

The Good Morning quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Kindred Quilt Pattern - The Cool Palette!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm excited to share the Kindred quilt pattern!  Kindred is the newest fat quarter friendly quilt pattern in the Busy Hands Quilts pattern line.

Kindred is an easy quilt pattern with secondary designs that catch the eye across the quilt top.  I didn't know this would happen until I sewed the quilt top; it didn't show up on the computer screen.

The Kindred quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Kindred Quilt Pattern

The Kindred quilt pattern is a fat quarter stash-busting quilt pattern.  This color combination of blues, aquas, greens, and yellows was a fat quarter bundle in my stash that turned out even prettier than I was expecting in the Kindred design.

Kindred comes in all of the sizes and can use a wide variety of fabrics, including prints and tonals.

The Binding can be cut from the fat quarters for all sizes except the Baby size.  The Binding on this quilt is from the fat quarters and thus, scrappy.

Fabric Selection

This quilt is made with a 1/2-yard bundle of fabric I had in my stash.  It is a Boundless bundle and is a mix from a lot of their collections, and I couldn't find a specific fabric collection name to share with you.

Because the pattern calls for 15 fat quarters for the Throw size and I had 1/2-yard cuts, a quilt kit was curated with the remaining fabrics and sold in my shop.

These exact fabrics are available from an Etsy seller right here.  There is enough fabric in the bundle to make two Throws or one Twin XL, with the addition of Accent fabrics.  The Binding fabric can be cut from the fat quarters as an option.

All of the Quilt Sizes

Kindred includes all of the quilt sizes from Baby all the way up to King.

Baby size  48" x 48"  8 FQs

Throw size  60" x 72"  15 FQs

Twin XL (perfect for dorm rooms)  72" x 96"  24 FQs

Queen  96" x 108"  36 FQs

King 108" x 108"  41 FQs

Kindred Longarm Quilting

The digital quilting design on this quilt is Ribbon Curls in white thread, quilted on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher.

Extra Wide Backing

Extra wide backing saves both time and money.  This quilt is backed with a navy print on white.  I like that there is enough white in it to hide the white thread from the quilting.  My preference is that the color of the quilting thread hides as much as possible on the back, but this may not even matter to you.

This wide back fabric is available in the Busy Hands Quilts Wide Back shop.

That pretty quilt on the quilt rack is a Gridwork quilt.  You can read about the quilt right here.

The Gridwork quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.
