Skip to My Lou Throw Quilt Kit in Rustle!

The Skip to My Lou quilt pattern is perfect for creating seasonal quilts!  This fall-themed fabric with leaves and acorns in autumn green, orange, burgundy and brown works so well in the Skip to My Lou design, adding in a light accent of cream and a dark accent of burgundy-brown.

The Skip to My Lou quilt pattern includes 5 sizes - Baby, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King - and is precut friendly, with instructions for using charm packs and layer cake squares plus a light accent and a dark accent.  It could easily be made with fat quarters with two simple calculations. I should have included FQs in the Quilt Stats!

Skip To My Lou is a modern design that is quick, easy, and of course, fun to quilt with!  I made this quilt in the Throw size.  The design echoes out from the center of the quilt, making for a truly eye-catching quilt.  Simply grab your favorite precuts, or cut the number of squares indicated in the pattern, add in a light and a dark contrasting fabric, and you're all set!

You know how much I love to spoil you with all of the different size options for you to choose from.  The Skip To My Lou design includes five sizes - Baby, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.  Whatever quilt size you want to make, we've got you covered!

Sweet Sweet Fabrics!

Berry Market is a favorite fabric collection of mine by Beverly McCullough for Riley Blake Designs.  This collection includes a variety of prints in pinks, mint green, and a deeper teal/green called Stargazer.  This is such an elegant and cheerful collection!

Choosing your own fabrics for Skip to My Lou is really simple.  While hues that stand out from the background and accent fabrics are ideal, it seems that a variety of hues adds sparkle to the quilt, so don't be afraid to use a few darker prints mixed with some lighter prints even if they are similar hues to the background and accent fabrics.  In this quilt, the Stargazer and Red prints in the collection are darker than the accent fabric, and they still totally work in the design!

Longarm Machine Quilting

The longarm quilting design I used is Wave on Wave in Superior Omni thread in bright white.  This was quilted on my HandiQuilter Amara with ProStitcher.

This quilt top was made by Kare Ybarra and quilted and bound by me.

Skip To My Lou Baby Quilt in Violet Craft Modern Classics!

Today I'm sharing a bright and happy rainbow Skip to My Lou in the Baby size!  

The Skip to My Lou quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Precut Friendly Quilt Pattern

Skip to My Lou is a precut friendly quilt pattern - you can use charm packs or layer cake squares, or of course scraps from your stash would work just as easily.  Just cut the number of squares in the size indicated in the quilt pattern. 

After you've selected your print squares, choose two solid fabrics that set off the squares.  This quilt is made with Kona White as the background and Kona Charcoal as the accent fabric that creates the design.

Beautiful Rainbow Fabrics!

This quilt is made with a charm pack of Violet Craft Modern Classics, available right here.  Check out the modern subtle prints in white on the bright colors!  The colors are arranged in rainbow order as much as possible, placing the lighter gray prints from the collection in the middle of the quilts, with the  medium and dark grays and the black print placed in the four diagonal rows that branch out from the center, for a radiating effect.

A Peek at the Backing!

The backing in this quilt is a print I've been hoarding for a LONG time.  It's a flannel print of a leaf shape in a rainbow of colors.  Just so bright, fun, and happy, and perfect for the backing on a baby quilt!

Longarm Quilting

The longarm quilting is a meandering heart design in white thread, completed on my HandiQuilter Fusion with ProStitcher.  Such a sweet design for a sweet baby!

Ready to be chewed and spit upon, the double fold binding is a teal print from the Violet Craft Modern Classics fabric collection, available right here.  It will get a lot of use in the quilt, that's for sure.  I've attached it entirely by machine for a quick, sturdy finish.
