Ships Ahoy Table Runner from Just One Charm Pack Quilts Book!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm excited to share a sweet Ships Ahoy quilted table runner with you!  This quilt pattern is included in Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs brand-new book called Just One Charm Pack Quilts, and today is my stop on the book hop!

The Book Hop runs through Thursday, July 29th, so be sure to head over to Meadow Mist Designs and sign up to receive blog post emails so you are sure you don't miss any of the featured quilts.  There are so many designs you don't want to miss.  :)

Welcome to Readers New and Seasoned!

If this is your first time here, having stopped by because of Cheryl's Book Hop, or if you're a previous reader, welcome to all of you!  I'm Myra, and Busy Hands Quilts is where I share my quilting love with you.  Busy Hands Quilts has sponsored Cheryl's mystery quilt alongs for a number of years, and I'm happy to have been invited to make a quilt for her Book Hop.  :)

I'd love it if you'd subscribe to my newsletter where I spoil my readers with subscriber-only Pattern Sales, Giveaways, Tips and Tricks, as well as amazing fabric deals I find around the web.  I also share links to shops that have made quilt kits in my patterns.  You'll even receive a free quilt pattern right off the bat!

Ships Ahoy Quilt Pattern

The Ships Ahoy quilt pattern in the Just One Charm Pack Quilts Book is a charm pack quilt with a single background fabric with a border.  The large blocks go together very quickly.  They are reminiscent of life rings on a ship, thus the quilt pattern name, Ships Ahoy.  The design in the book has nine blocks set 3x3, but this quilt has only four blocks set in a single row.

I alternated the fabric colors in every other block, navy with red.  Every other block has red star print with navy florals, alternating with blocks with navy star print and red florals.

The Just One Charm Pack Quilts Book

This beautiful book includes 18 projects that use just one charm pack and two additional yardage fabrics.  Each quilt is shown in two different colorways to help get your creative juices flowing to create a quilt that reflects your personal style.  The quilts are baby size through small lap size, are very beginner friendly, and are traditionally pieced (no applique or paper piecing).  This is my kind of book!  :)  You can get a signed copy of the book right here.

If you're like me and don't collect charm packs, the patterns work really well with scraps from your stash.  As an added bonus, the book teaches you how to create your own charm packs.

The Red, White, and Blue!

Since I was making this quilt for my own dining room, I wanted to use red, white, and blue to match the red/white gingham tablecloth that is usually on the table.  I made the tablecloth from an extra-wide backing fabric from Bonnie and Camille - easy peasy!  In my stash was a perfect layer cake of Land of Liberty by Riley Blake.    You'll find it on Etsy right here and at Fat Quarter Shop right here.  I love this collection so much!  Florals, ginghams, pinwheels, stars; so much goodness in bright and happy red and navy with both crisp and creamy whites!  The border is a Riley Blake Basic gingham in navy and white, and the binding is solid red.

Longarm Quilting

This quilting design is Posies, quilted in white thread on my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher.  I quilted two quilts at a time (one right after the other on the same piece of backing), and I showed you the other one a few days ago - you can see it right here.

This quilt is quilted with a layer of cotton batting with an extra layer of heat-resistant batting.  This way I don't have to cover up the pretty table runner with hot pads under dishes that are warm, though I wouldn't trust this batting with a hot cast iron pan.

Row Addition Baby Boy Quilt!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Another 2019 finish that needs it's day to shine on the blog is a Row Addition baby quilt!

This quilt design is from the book Modern Plus Sign Quilts and is one of many fantastic Plus quilts in the book which is written by Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs and Paige of Quilted Blooms.  I made two baby quilts at the same time for their book hop in 2018, but it took me a year to get this one quilted and bound.  You can see the other one right here.

The quilting reminds me of starry, fiery fireworks.  It's definitely a design I'll use again and again.

The backing fabric inspired the fabrics for the stripes in the quilt top.  I had just the right Moda Grunge fabrics to coordinate well.  I read this week that there are now over 300 Grunge colors!  Now that I type that, I'm questioning myself because that's so hard to believe, but I'm pretty sure that's what I read.  Fat Quarter Shop carries the full collection of Moda Grunge right here.

Quilt Stats:
Pattern:  Row Addition from Modern Plus Sign Quilts Book
Size:  40" x 45"
Fabric:  Moda Grunge
Batting:  Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 cotton/poly
Quilting:  Stars on Gratitude, my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher
Backing:  A Michael Miller chevron
Binding:  Gray Grunge, double fold, attached by machine.

This quilt is for sale in my quilt shop right here.

Row Addition Baby Quilt | Finished or Not Friday Linky Party!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Welcome to Finished or Not Friday where you can share your finished {or not} projects!

My Finish is Row Addition from the book Modern Plus Sign Quilts!  This is one of many fantastic Plus quilts in the book which is written by Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs and Paige of Quilted Blooms.

I made this quilt as part of the Modern Plus Sign Quilt book shop but couldn't finish it by my post date and showed only the quilt top because my longarm was in the hospital.  I've had my machine back for awhile, and I've finally crawled out from under my huge pile of quilting deadlines to finish this happy quilt.

Quilt Stats:
Pattern:  Row Addition, found in Modern Plus Sign Quilts
Size:  40" x 45"
Fabric:  Moda Grunge
Batting:  Warm and White.
Quilting:  Zings on Gratitude.
Backing:  Riley Blake chevron.

This quilt is for sale in my quilt shop!

I'm Guest Hosting Building Blocks Tuesday Today!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm guest hosting Building Blocks Tuesday for the regular hostess, Quilter in the Closet.  Most of my minimal sewing time this week has been dedicated to the custom twin and lap HST quilts I'm making, but I did take a little break from them to cut the blocks for Lesson 5 and part of Lesson 6 in the Aiming for Accuracy 2 QAL.  Once again I cut two sets of each block, one with a white background and one with a black background.

What blocks have you been working on this week? I would love to see.  Link up your fabulous blocks. You put a lot of hard work into them - show them off!  This free linky will stay open until it closes {HaHa!}, and it will be reposted every Tuesday until a new linky starts {I don't know when that is!}.

Quilter in the Closet Rules:
1) Please link up only to the page in your blog showing your wonderful blocks, not just the blog homepage. Flickr and Instagram pictures are also OK.
2) Make sure to put your blog name as the description so people know where they are going or the name of your block!
3) Please grab Quilter in the Closet's button and post it in your blog post or sidebar.  Here is the code:

"Building Blocks Tuesday" + Custom HST Twin and Lap Quilts {Progress #2}

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm guest hosting Building Blocks Tuesday for the regular hostess, Quilter in the Closet.

My block share for the week is 450 half-square triangles for custom twin and lap quilts.  They are all trimmed.  Since the only one who volunteered to come over for an afternoon to help me trim them was my sister who lives 1500 miles away, I had to trim them all by my lonesome!  {GASP!}

I have begun keeping track of every minute I put into a project.  If you don't want to be in for the shock of your life, don't do it.  Really, don't do it; it can be very disheartening if you are looking to put a dollar figure on your time.  With my 6.5" Bloc Loc ruler and rotating mat, I got it down to 15 seconds to trim each HST and have officially achieved the "AAA Professional" rating in trimming HSTs!

Bloc Loc's are the most useful rulers in my collection, other than the 5" x 24" and 3.5" x 18" rulers that I use all of the time.  The groove on the bottom of the Bloc Loc ruler nests against the seam of the HST block and keeps the ruler from slipping as the block is cut and the mat is turned.

Bloc Loc's are often sold in sets of several sizes, and I'll let you in on a secret - you really don't need all those sizes!  In fact, in my opinion, the littlest ones aren't really safe because your fingers end up so close to the edges where the rotary blade is cutting.  I have two sizes - the 4.5" and the 6.5" - and these two sizes work great for all blocks 6.5" and less.

To trim a block that is smaller than the ruler size, line up the ruler as usual, trim the first two sides, rotate the mat 180 degrees, slide the ruler down so the two cut edges line up with the markings for the measurement of the block, and trim the other two sides.

With the money you save by buying less Bloc Loc's, you can invest in a rotating mat, which I consider a required companion to the Bloc Loc rulers.  If you have a need for tools to trim HSTs, here are some great buys on supplies, though the Bloc Loc's seem to rarely go on sale:

Welcome to Our Simple Country Life's Blog Party.  Click on the button above to join the fun!

About the Hearts Family:
  • Mrs.Hearts ain't my real name.
  • I have been married to Mr.Hearts for a long time - and he won't know you're talking to him if you call him Mr.Hearts.
  • Our oldest son is Bookworm - 16 - this is what happens when you let your kids name themselves.
  • The middle boy is Eagle Eye - 13 - another example of self-naming.
  • Millie is our youngest - 10 -  she has changed her name numerous times {of course}.
  • We are in our sixth year of homeschooling.  It is the best, most life-altering  choice we as parents have ever made ... after serving the Lord, of course.
About The Hearts Homestead:
  • We have 14 chickens; 7 Barred Rocks and 7 Auracanas.  They are often threatened with the stew pot because we do NOT get 14 eggs a day.
  • Molly, our golden lab, is 13-1/2 years old ... and acts more and more like she is 91 years old.
  • Hobbes, the cat, frequently gets into scraps with other animals so he can come home and get some sympathy.
  • Lightning, the fastest hamster we have ever had, is  2 months old and is pure white and as adorable as any rodent can be.
  • We live where the sky is clear 58 days of the year ... no joke.
About Mrs.Hearts' Addiction to Quilting:
  • I have been playing with fabric and yarn for 3 decades ... { gulp }.
  • I began to quilt about 8 years ago.
  • I remember clearly when I first fell in love with quilt-shop quality fabric.  I was often seen ... fondling ... fabric ... and still am. :}
  • The first fabrics I loved were Thimbleberries and 1930s reproductions, and now I am moving toward more modern, brighter designs.
  • I have a dream to design my own quilt pattern(s) someday.
  • I have more fabric in my closet than clothes.
  • I sew nearly ... every ... day.
  • I have a little bitty Etsy shop ... Busy Hands Quilts!
Why I blog:
  • To let out the many things rattling around in my brain.
  • To have a record of all the items I have sewn.
  • To hear from others who have similar interests.
  • 'Cause I enjoy being creative with my blog layout and design.
