Granny's Square Patch Quilt in Love Note by Moda Fabrics!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Love Note by Lella Boutique for Moda works perfectly for with the Granny's Square Patch quilt pattern!  In this quilt, the chains are made with multiple colors, and in previous versions the chains have all been made with the same color.  I like this new look very much!  It's so cozy, farmhouse-y, and grandmother-ly!  The border is perfect for a focal print that pulls all of the fabrics together.

The quilt pattern includes 6 sizes - Baby, Lap, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King - and is strip pieced for a quick finish.

The Granny's Square Patch quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

Granny's Square Patch Queen Quilt by Joan!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Today I'm sharing one of your quilts!  This is a Granny's Square Patch quilt made by Joan.  She used the Queen size quilt kit in the Maison Rouge fabric collection from Connecting Threads.

The Granny's Square Patch quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts pattern shop.

Joan also made matching pillow shams from the leftover fabric!

The Granny's Square Patch quilt pattern includes six sizes.

    Baby Size  41" x 52"

    Lap Size  52" x 62"

    Throw Size 62" x 73"

    Twin Bed Size  73" x 94"

    Queen Bed Size 94" x 105"

    King Bed Size  116" x 105"

This pattern is a modern remake of an old-fashioned design.  Strip piecing speeds up the process, and this is a great pattern to learn how to make pieced setting triangles.

Granny's Square Patch Quilt Pattern - Use Scraps or Just Three Fabrics!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Granny's Square Patch is back in the shop, and I'm happy to have her home!!

After being licensed to Connecting Threads for a few years, Granny's Square Patch is happy to be home!  I have updated and fine-tuned the pattern, and it's available in the shop right here.

This is the version that Connecting Threads sold in Maison Rouge.

Granny's Square Patch includes 6 sizes - Baby, Lap, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King - and uses strip pieced to speed up the process.

Granny's Square Patch looks amazing as a scrappy quilt or with as few as three colors.  Borders can be left off for a different look also.  This is the scrappy version below with a single border.

This is a three-color version - orange, brown, white with a single border.  This quilt is aptly named Rootbeer Float.  I know you don't see the mistake I made when I left the sashing off the corners.  :)

Modern met old-fashioned when Tula Pink fabrics met Granny's Square Patch!  This quilt has two borders - white and a print from the collection.  The 9-patch blocks are made with a single fabric and the square blocks are made with a variety of stripes and polka dots.  There are so many options with this pattern!

Here is a turquoise version I made that featured white/black animal prints as the background.

As you can see, Granny's Square Patch is a great pattern to have on hand to use scraps or even as few as three fabrics!  If you have a fabric you just don't know what to do with, this might be the perfect pattern for it.

Granny's Square Patch Throw Quilt in Tula Pink!

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Granny's Square Patch in Tula Pink is another quilt I made last year but didn't blog about.  I used ultra modern Tula Pink fabrics in this quilt to show that an old fashioned design and modern fabrics can meld quite well.

In keeping with the modern fabrics, I chose a hexie quilting design, though even a feathery design would have looked lovely as well.  Sometimes choosing a quilting design is paralyzing and you've just got to just jump in and GO or it will never get done.

This lovely blue/purple circular design was found in the stash and esteemed perfect for this quilt as backing and binding.

This was one of the first quilts pictured in my new photography room - a.k.a. empty bedroom post kid moving out!  The gray paint turned out more blue than anticipated, but I'm not picky about things like that, so it stays.

Quilt Stats:
Pattern:  Granny's Square Patch, available right here.
Size:  50" x 60"
Fabric:  Tula Pink
Quilting:  Hexies on Gratitude, my Handi Quilter Fusion with ProStitcher
Batting:  Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 cotton/poly
Backing:  Blue/purple circular print, unknown.

This quilt has sold!  You will find more like it in my quilt shop right here!

Did you know that Granny's Square Patch has been kitted by Connecting Threads?  Mmm hmm, it's a lovely red, pink, and cream collection.  Here is the catalog image.  :)   You'll find it right here.

Granny's Square Patch Quilt Pattern Update

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

The questions are starting to come in about my Granny's Square Patch quilt pattern after its debut in the brand-new Connecting Threads catalog, so I thought I'd answer them right here for all of you.  CT has kitted Granny's Square Patch in Maison Rouge, a super sweet collection in reds, pinks, tans, and creams.  This is the picture in the Connecting Threads catalog.

While buying the quilt kit is a great option because you'll receive exactly what you need to complete the quilt without having to hem and haw about fabric selection, sometimes we just want to choose the fabrics ourselves.  If you want just the pattern, you'll find Granny's Square Patch on the Connecting Threads' site.  I have licensed this pattern to CT for a period of time, and that's why you're not finding it in my shop.  You'll find the quilt kit and the standalone pattern right here.

As ever, be sure to share your quilt on social media with #GrannysSquarePatchQuilt and @busyhandsquilts so I am sure to see it.  Thanks!

I have a second quilt in the current Connecting Threads catalog.  This one is a brand-new pattern.  Did you see it?!?

Granny's Square Patch {the Rootbeer Float Version!}

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

This quilt reminds me of A&W Rootbeer, so I've named it "Rootbeer Float".  This was the first quilt I made when testing my Granny's Square Patch pattern.  Maybe you'd agree that it wasn't meant to be the cover quilt!!

The blocks in this quilt are bigger than the blocks in the Granny Square Patch pattern.  I was still playing with it when I made this quilt and decided the blocks needed to be smaller for more visual effect.

The backing looks sorta like the stitching on a baseball.  This being a donation quilt for a man, I thought it was a great match.

Quilt Stats:
  • Pattern:  Granny's Square Patch
  • Size:  57" x 70"
  • Fabric:  Kona Cotton Solids
  • Batting:  100% cotton
  • Backing:  Echo by Lotta Jansdotter for Windham.
  • Quilting:  Allover large meandering stitch in brown polyester thread on Mrs.Singer, my antique 31-15 mounted on a long-arm quilting frame.
  • Binding:  Kona Cotton Solid, double fold, attached by machine.
  • Value:  Refreshing as an A&W rootbeer float!
This quilt was made as part of the Hands2Help Charity Quilt Challenge 2016 at Confessions of a Fabric Addict and will be donated to Covered in Love where it will be donated at the East Texas Medical Center.

Granny's Square Patch {a New Pattern!!}

This post may contain affiliate links. Thank you for your support!

Introducing Granny's Square Patch - my latest pattern!  She's a twist on an old classic and is super sweet in today's modern fabrics!

This pattern started out as the tutorial I was writing for the Nifty Nines Quilt Along over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  I soon realized it was too complicated for a tutorial with the on-point layout with sashed triangles, so I designed an easier 9-patch pattern for the Quilt Along and wrote this as a full pattern.  That tutorial posts on April 10th, so stop back to see it!

Granny's Square Patch is a full pattern with instructions in six sizes from baby to king, including two lap sizes.  Not everyone likes a huge lap quilt {I don't because I'm so short}, and some people like them long {my dad wants his toes covered!}.

Here is the quilt in other colorways!

I can't wait to see what fabrics you choose!

This pattern is on sale for an introductory price for a week or so, and then the price will increase.

If you are from the European Union, please purchase this pattern from my Etsy shop rather than my Craftsy shop.  Thank you!

Quilt Stats:
  • Pattern:  Granny's Square Patch
  • Size: Large Lap 58" x 68"
  • Fabric:  Daysail by Bonnie and Camille
  • Batting:  Hobbs 100% cotton
  • Quilting:  Allover meandering medium stitch on Mrs.Singer.
  • Backing:  Daysail by Bonnie and Camille
  • Binding:  Daysail by Bonnie and Camille, double fold, attached by machine with mitered corners.
  • Value:  Soft and special!
