Primrose Quilt Pattern - a Throw Quilt in Faraway Florals!

Today I'm sharing a Primrose quilt pattern with a sweet mint background and bright bold florals.  This traditional 9-Patch pattern includes 9 sizes and two piecing options - traditional and strip piecing.

Stunning Floral Fabrics

These prints are from the Faraway Florals fabric collection by Robert Kaufman.  There are large and small florals in pinks, teals, oranges, yellows, reds, and navy.  So much sweetness here!

Two Methods of Block Piecing - Traditional Piecing and Strip Piecing

This quilt was made with the Strip Piecing method of piecing, because I am a strip piecer at heart ♥.  I figured out the math to make jelly roll strips work for the 9-Patch block, and it's all included in the pattern for you, along with 9 sizes!

Longarm Machine Quilting

The quilting design on this quilt is Ribbon Curls, a design I've used many times because it is so versatile and creates a soft quilt.  Quilted on my Handi Quilter Amara with ProStitcher.

The backing is a combination of two Color Stories Watercolor prints in light violet and dark violet.  I didn't have any yardage from the collection, so I used these prints in my stash.  The binding is made from leftover strips from the roll-up.

Primrose Throw Quilt in a Rainbow of Kimberbell Basics!

It has been too long since I've made a rainbow quilt!  This one was so fun to put together in the Primrose quilt pattern with the 9-patch blocks in all colors of the rainbow radiating across the quilt top.  

The Primrose quilt pattern includes 9 sizes (!), is jelly roll friendly, and includes instructions for both strip piecing and traditional piecing.  The Primrose quilt pattern is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

A Beautiful Rainbow

This quilt was made with half of a Kimberbell Basics Bright Lights jelly roll by Maywood Studio.  The Large Throw sizes uses 20 strips.  This jelly roll was easy to use with each fabric is duplicated twice, so I didn't have to decide which prints to use!  Easy peasy!  The background is Confetti Cottons Bright White by Riley Blake Designs.

Longarm Machine Quilting

The quilting design on this quilt is a combination of hearts, swirls, and Baptist fans.  I love the movement in this design!  It is called Heart Song from Sew Shabby Pantos.  Quilted in Bright White thread on my Handi Quilter Amara with ProStitcher.

Two Methods of Block Piecing - Traditional Piecing and Strip Piecing

This quilt was made with the Traditional Piecing method of piecing, even though I am a strip piecer at heart ♥.  Piecing the blocks square by square is a relaxing way to piece quilt blocks.  I figured out the math to use jelly roll strips to make multiple 9-Patch blocks, and it's all included in the pattern for you, along with 9 sizes!

The rainbow of prints are arranged in a diagonal design across the quilt top, distributing like prints as much as possible.  Some of the colorways in the jelly roll have only two prints, so they were placed every other one.  Laying out a rainbow of blocks in a diagonal design isn't an exact science and can be quite challenging, so a design wall is super helpful for this.  I try not to sweat block placement too much, but on this quilt I did rip out a few blocks and switch them up when assembling the quilt top.

Granny's Square Patch Quilt in Love Note by Moda Fabrics!

Love Note by Lella Boutique for Moda works perfectly for with the Granny's Square Patch quilt pattern!  In this quilt, the chains are made with multiple colors, and in previous versions the chains have all been made with the same color.  I like this new look very much!  It's so cozy, farmhouse-y, and grandmother-ly!  The border is perfect for a focal print that pulls all of the fabrics together.

The quilt pattern includes 6 sizes - Baby, Lap, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King - and is strip pieced for a quick finish.

Granny's Square Patch Quilt Pattern - Use Scraps or Just Three Fabrics!

Granny's Square Patch is back in the shop, and I'm happy to have her home!!

Granny's Square Patch is available in the Busy Hands Quilts shop.

After being licensed to Connecting Threads for a few years, Granny's Square Patch is happy to be home!  I have updated and fine-tuned the pattern, and it's available in the shop right here.

This is the version that Connecting Threads sold in Maison Rouge.

Granny's Square Patch includes 6 sizes - Baby, Lap, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King - and uses strip pieced to speed up the process.  

Granny's Square Patch looks amazing as a scrappy quilt or with as few as three colors.  Borders can be left off for a different look also.  This is the scrappy version below with a single border. 

This is a three-color version - orange, brown, white with a single border.  This quilt is aptly named Rootbeer Float.  I know you don't see the mistake I made when I left the sashing off the corners.  :)

Modern met old-fashioned when Tula Pink fabrics met Granny's Square Patch!  This quilt has two borders - white and a print from the collection.  The 9-patch blocks are made with a single fabric and the square blocks are made with a variety of stripes and polka dots.  There are so many options with this pattern!

Here is a turquoise version I made that featured white/black animal prints as the background.

As you can see, Granny's Square Patch is a great pattern to have on hand to use scraps or even as few as three fabrics!  If you have a fabric you just don't know what to do with, this might be the perfect pattern for it.

1930s Repro Disappearing 16-Patch Table Runner

Hailing from March of 2011, another QIP has been completed!  These blocks were made for a Quilt-Along over at Happy Quilting, called the Original Happy Quilting Quilt-Along.   The main block is a disappearing 16-patch made from 5" squares.  The 16-patch is cut in half diagonally and then sewn together with a half of a different 16-patch block, and then corner strips and triangles are added.  This result of this method is that the points do not match at the corners of the disappearing 16-patch block.  I do like matchy-matchy corners, but since I know it isn't a mistake, I can deal with it. Made entirely from my stash ... hurray!!  Although I have been completing a lot of UFOs lately, it hasn't yet made a visible dent in my fabric closet.  It's no small closet ... it's a walk-in!  One side is my clothes, and the other two walls are fabric and batting on shelves from floor to ceiling ... a 9-foot ceiling!  The fabric acts as insulation, and the closet is warm in the winter and cool in the summer, even without its own air vent!  But I digress. The backing is made from strips of coordinating fabrics in the middle of two pieces of sunny yellow.  The binding is the same sunny yellow print as the backing.  That yummy yellow is from the quilt shop {that used to be} around the corner from my house ... where I planned to work one day a week when my kids got old enough ... sigh ... the store went out of business before I had the opportunity. Quilt Stats:

• Fabric:  Quilt-shop 1930s reproduction fabrics, I believe Judie Rothermel was the designer of all but the yellow fabric

Two Thimbleberries Scrappy Star 'n 9-Patch Quilts

Two Thimbleberries scrappy stars in the nine patch quilts were finally bound today - a table runner and a wall hanging or table centerpiece.  I've been working on a very big queen-sized quilt for my living room wall {you'll see that on Monday!}, so these quilts sat around for a few days before being bound ... {gasp!}.  That was after the blocks sat in my fabric closet for well over a year, waiting for their chance to shine.  See, when I make blocks, I tend to make three times as many as I need, and the remaining blocks are banished to the fabric closet for at least a year, it seems!

It feels great to get another unfinished project FINISHED!!

I quilted with cream and navy thread to blend in with the quilt top.

Stars Light My Path Quilt in Progress

Fresh Fabric Treats by the Moda Bake Shop Designers is the source of my latest quilting project!  I'm making the Summer Sorbet Quilt pattern in Thimbleberries fabrics.  I've named it "Stars Light My Path".  This quilt is pictured on the front of the book.  I'm enjoying the way the wonky stars go together - nice and easy peasy with no exact matching or rocket science required.  I'm using my huge stack of 4-1/2" squares rather than the 5" squares the pattern calls for, without any problems.  Saves cutting time!  Here's a picture of them as I squared them up.

And here she is on my design wall.  The pattern in Fresh Fabric Treats is for an 80" x 80" quilt, but I am making two smaller wall hangings and a table runner with the 12 stars I made.  They'll be for sale in my Etsy shop soon!
